Sunday 28th October Larkhall Athletic 2 - 3 Cullumpton Rangers

This week Larkhall Ladies travelled to Cheltenham Town for a thrilling five goal battle.

The game started with both teams competing well and playing at an even pace even though the weather conditions were far from perfect. Larkhall were forced into making a few changes due to injuries however adapted well and were also grateful for the return of Laura Gregory in defence giving Katie Ransome a more attacking role in midfield.

With possession predominantly being with Cullumpoton  and making lots of chances it came as no surprise when Cullumpton went 1-0 up ,after quick play breaking through the middle and placing the ball past Jodi Steenaart who was advancing out to block the shot.

This seemed to wake up the Larks and they then in turn had some good chances of their own with breaks from Emily Harrington and Sophie Hamer down the wings putting across good crosses however these were unable to be executed. It finally took a long range effort from Katie Ransome to bring Larkhall back onto level terms.

Shortly after the equalizer the pressure was back on the Larks with Cullumpton attacking from all angles and having Tasha Miller and Charlene Rooney solid in defence. Then Cullumpton were rewarded a free-kick just outside the Larks penalty area which was struck superbly hitting the cross bar and fortunately the rebound being hit wide.

Jodi Steenaart kept Larkhall in the game in the first half with well timed saves from a number of one on ones using all parts of her body to do this!!

After a Cully attack the Larks had a quick break with Harrington down the right resulting in a shot just put over the bar.

Cullumpton got there second goal from a corner when a scramble on the goal line somehow saw the ball going in and the half time score being 2-1 to Cullumpton.

The second half saw more of the first half play with both teams cancelling each other out and making an even amount of chances. Laura Gregory was solid in defence making lots of challenges at right back and having Harrington in front of her making breaks down the right this loked where the Larks may get a goal from. Larkhall made a few chanes half way through the second half to bring on some fresh legs with Simone Broad replacing Leanne Couch and Jennifer Morris coming on for Jodie Whaley.

The Larks continued to press but just couldn’t find a way through, the defence also stood strong with Kelly Macintosh making a number of vital challenges at the back to prevent Cullumpton scoring a third.

Overall it was a very entertaining match in which the Larks were slightly disappointed not to come away with any points.
